Our History

General Daniel Chappie James, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 4761 received their Charter on Oct 5, 1991. From October 1991 to 1992, VFW 4761 met at many places until they begin meeting in a small building at 21st and Main St in 1992. From 1993 until 1995, they met at a bldg on Jefferson St. and Union St. From 1995 to 2001 they met at the American Legion Post 197 on Avenue B. In 2001, they met on 12th St until 2013. In 2013, they met on Winton Drive until 2015. In 2015 they began meeting at the Wells Fargo Bank on 6th St and Main St. In 2020 they began meeting at the Urban League on Union St. In 2021, they began meeting at 531 W. Union St. VFW 4761 has received many accolades and awards over the years. Past Commander Clarence Walker was the first Commander to receive All State and Past Commander Harold Baldwin was the first Commander to achieve All American.
